About my Interior Design Business

I have been working as a freelance interior designer since 2001, at Designs by Michele Renee. I have the privilege of designing many unique projects; I have done everything from the homes of first-time owner's, to a clients dream home, remodeling projects, and commerical projects and churches. One of my largest projects was Ridge Point community church where I worked on the space planning concepts and interior design of the 70,000 Square foot church addition. I also have worked with area builders drawing new home plans. I have AutoCAD and Soft Plan programs that I use for floor plan design, cabinet layouts, or complete home plans. I work with area fabricators, builders, installers, cabinet stores, and furniture stores to help coordinate your projects. I have been married to my best friend for almost 29 years. We have been blessed with three grown children and one wonderful son in law. I work as an artist. I mainly do abstract paintings and expressionist landscapes. One of my favorite times of worship is in my studio painting and singing along to worship music. I love how God inspires me with worship music and nature. Our family has had many trials over the past couple of years and I have had many health problems over the last few years. God has given me strength and comfort throughout my life. I am a weak child of God who seeks God's face daily through prayer and reading His Word. God is who gives me strength, direction and purpose in my life. I started this blog to share my journey in Gods word and to seek God daily with others. I hope to encourage others to live a full, abundant, joyful life in Christ!

Grandville Remodel Project

On our first initial meeting the owners expressed that they didn't care for any of the interior paint colors. We selected all new paint colors for the main level. I worked with their existing hickory cabinets. We added a new island with a distressed black cabinet and rearranged some of the other cabinets to be more functional. We added black hardware to the hickory cabinets to pull the black through the entire kitchen area. Also a new laminate wood floor was added to the kitchen. We selected new granite counter tops from Duca and new backsplash tile from Virginia Tile. The owners originally felt the home was uninviting and cool. We warmed up all the tones in the home. They are very excited about the changes!

Finish Lower Level Project

The following photos are from a lower level build out. I began working with my clients by listening to their needs for this project. I drew up different concepts and they selected the concept that best fit their requirements. I also drew up an entertainment elevation and office millwork detail. I assisted them with decisions from start to finish on their lower level project. Prior to this project I worked with my clients on their upper two levels of this home.

I did many concepts for my client. We selected Vertical tile in a cream color with a vertical pattern for a subtle texture.

Brairwood Parade Home - Calvary Church Mission Project

This is a 2011 Holland Parade Home I was involved with. I was blessed to work with many volunteers most of which were from Calvary Christian Reformed Church. The home is in a neighborhood which has about 95% rentals. This parade home was originally a duplex and was converted into a three bedroom home. Calvary Church is hoping to buy other homes in this area and remodel them and get believers a place to connect with others living in the neighborhood and bring them to Christ. A special word of thanks to Kris Wassink who is an owner of UBU Furnishings. Kris let us use her furniture and accessories to decorate the home for the parade. She was very patient with me the several times I went to the store and removed items...UBU is located in the Rivertown Mall, in Grandville MI and has awesome home furnishings!!!!!!!!!

REMODELED HOME

Below are before and after photos and floor plan. This was the owner's first home. The home had been abandoned for 2 years and contained the original carpet and water damage. It also was lacking in storage. I helped the owners with several layouts of what the home could look like. They selected the best plan for their needs. Then, I helped them keep the project on budget by finding most of the needed products at local fabricators and stores. The owners did most of the work themselves, using my plans and contacts for cost savings.
